MXL belts offer the most compact tooth pitch among standard ANSI trapezoidal profiles. For applications requiring higher load capacity in a small form factor, consider stepping up to XL (0.200" pitch) or 3M HTD (3mm pitch). MXL Timing Belt Materials

MXL timing belts are manufactured in two primary body materials. The right material depends on the operating environment, cleanliness requirements, and expected belt life.

Neoprene (Rubber) MXL Belts

Standard neoprene MXL belts use a fiberglass tensile cord for low stretch and excellent dimensional stability. The tooth face is covered with nylon fabric for reduced friction and wear resistance. Neoprene MXL belts are suitable for most general-purpose miniature drive applications operating within standard temperature and humidity ranges.

Urethane MXL Belts

Urethane (polyurethane) MXL belts are available with steel cord or Kevlar cord reinforcement. Urethane belts offer superior chemical resistance, lower particulate generation, and are suitable for cleanroom, food-contact, and medical device applications. Common MXL Timing Belt Applications

MXL belts are used wherever a compact, precise, positive-drive belt is needed and loads are relatively light. The small tooth pitch allows fine positional control with minimal backlash.

MXL belts are not recommended for heavy industrial loads or high-torque applications. For those requirements, consider L (3/8" pitch), H (1/2" pitch), or HTD timing belts.
