Banded V-Belts

Banded belts solve a specific problem: on high-shock, high-vibration or multi-groove drives, single belts can flip in the groove (turnover) or whip and slap. Joining the strands with a top band forces them to share load evenly and stay seated, which extends belt life and protects the drive.

The number before the slash is the strand count and the part after it is the single-belt size. 2/B48 is two B48 belts banded together; 3/5V1400 is three 5V1400 strands. Banded belts run in the same multi-groove sheaves as the matching single belts.

Construction

Each strand uses the same polyester (or aramid) cord and oil- and heat-resistant body as the matching single belt, tied with a fabric-reinforced top band. Cogged banded belts add the molded raw-edge notches for tighter sheaves and cooler running.

Use a banded belt where single belts in a multi-groove drive turn over, whip, or wear unevenly. If your drive is stable and lightly loaded, matched single V-belts or cogged V-belts may be all you need.

Selecting and Measuring

Order by strand count and single-belt size: state the number of strands and the single-belt section and length (for example, 2/B90 or 3/5V1180). The sheave must have at least as many grooves as the strand count. The single-belt size is read the same way as an ordinary V-belt.
