Cogged (Raw-Edge) V-Belts

Raw-edge cogged belts replace the fabric wrap with exposed, molded sidewalls and a notched underside. The notches reduce bending stress, so the belt flexes more easily around small-diameter sheaves, builds less heat, and lasts longer on high-speed or compact drives. Raw edges also grip the sheave directly for better traction.

Cogged belts are direct upgrades for the matching wrapped section: an AX runs in the same sheave as an A, a BX in a B, and so on. The cogged-wedge 3VX, 5VX and 8VX belts are the notched versions of the narrow 3V, 5V and 8V wedge sections.

Construction

These belts use a polyester (or, on premium lines, aramid) tensile cord in an oil- and heat-resistant raw-edge body with molded cogs. The exposed sidewalls and notched bottom are what give the belt its flex and cooler running compared with a wrapped belt.

If your drive uses standard sheaves and does not run especially hot or fast, a wrapped classical V-belt is the economical choice. Move to cogged when you have small sheaves, high speeds, backside idlers, or a history of belts cracking or running hot.

Order by section and length just like a wrapped belt. The cogged section matches the sheave: AX for an A sheave, BX for a B, CX for a C, and 3VX/5VX/8VX for the matching wedge sheave. The length is marked on the belt — an AX-marked number is an effective/outside length.
