What Are FDA & Food Grade Thermoplastic Belts?
FDA and food grade thermoplastic belts use synthetic polymer cover compounds — PVC, polyurethane, silicone, polyolefin, and PTFE/Teflon — that meet FDA 21 CFR requirements for direct food contact. These belts are manufactured by calendering and laminating cover compounds onto polyester or nylon woven carcasses, allowing precise control over surface friction, chemical resistance, product release, and temperature tolerance. ProClean belts are homogeneous thermoplastic constructions designed for sanitary environments with frequent washdowns — available in flat and positive-drive configurations. Metal-detectable belts contain compounds that trigger metal detection equipment for food safety compliance. Texas Belting stocks all configurations custom cut to width with heat-welded or mechanical splices.
