What Are Incline Roughtop Belts?

Incline roughtop conveyor belts feature a textured carrying surface that provides grip for material transport at incline angles typically up to 25-30 degrees. Roughtop surfaces are available in black SBR, tan pure gum, blue carboxylated nitrile (FDA), brown nitrile, brown butyl, neoprene, orange, and MOR (moderate oil resistant) rubber compounds on multi-ply polyester carcasses from 2 to 4 ply. PVC roughtop versions are also available. The roughtop texture pattern varies by specification — some provide aggressive grip for heavy aggregate while others offer gentler texturing for food products. Texas Belting stocks roughtop belts in multiple compounds and ply counts, custom cut to width and fabricated to length.

Frequently Asked Questions

What incline angle can roughtop belts handle?+
Standard roughtop belts handle inclines up to 25-30 degrees depending on the material being conveyed. Dry, uniform materials can go steeper. Wet, round, or loose materials may require steeper-angle solutions like cleats or chevrons.
Which roughtop compound should I choose?+
Black SBR for general purpose. Tan pure gum for low-marking applications. Blue carboxylated nitrile for FDA food contact. Brown nitrile or butyl for oil resistance. Neoprene for chemical and weather resistance. Orange for high visibility. MOR for moderate oil exposure.
Can roughtop belts be used for food processing?+
Yes. Blue carboxylated nitrile and tan carboxylated nitrile roughtop belts are FDA-compliant for direct food contact. They are commonly used for incline conveying of meat, poultry, produce, and packaged food products.
What ply count do I need for incline roughtop?+
2 ply (150-210 PIW) for short conveyors and lighter loads. 3 ply (135-225 PIW) for medium conveyors and general industrial use. 4 ply (240 PIW) for long conveyors and heavy loads. CP30 roughtop versions offer enhanced tracking.
What is a CP30 roughtop belt?+
CP30 roughtop belts use a solid woven cotton-polyester (CP30) carcass with a roughtop surface. The CP30 carcass provides better tracking, higher fastener retention, and more consistent performance compared to standard multi-ply construction.
How are roughtop belts spliced?+
Mechanical fasteners (alligator lacing) are most common for field installation. Vulcanized finger splices provide maximum joint strength. The roughtop surface must be trimmed at the splice to allow proper fastener seating.
