What Are Interwoven PVC Belts?

Interwoven PVC belts use a solid woven polyester carcass with PVC compound impregnated throughout the entire fabric structure. Unlike laminated multi-ply belts, interwoven construction creates a single-ply belt that resists delamination, edge fraying, and moisture absorption. The PVC compound provides chemical resistance, flame retardancy, and consistent surface friction. Available in white FDA-compliant formulations for food processing, general-purpose black for industrial conveying, high-tension rated constructions (B-series up to 4500 lbs/inch) for demanding applications, and incline profiles with roughtop and chevron surfaces. Texas Belting stocks interwoven PVC belts from 100 to 750 PIW, custom cut to width.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of interwoven PVC over multi-ply rubber?+
Interwoven PVC resists delamination because the PVC is impregnated through the fabric rather than layered on top. It also resists edge fraying, does not absorb moisture, and provides inherent flame retardancy. The single-ply construction is lighter and more flexible at equivalent tension ratings.
Are white PVC belts FDA compliant?+
Yes. White interwoven PVC belts use FDA-compliant PVC compounds for direct food contact per 21 CFR 177.2600. They are widely used in food processing, packaging, and handling applications.
What does the B-series rating mean?+
B-series ratings (B1200, B1500, B2000, B3500, B4500) indicate the belt tension strength in pounds per inch of width. Higher ratings support longer conveyors and heavier loads. B3500 and above are heavy duty industrial constructions.
Can interwoven PVC be used on inclines?+
Yes. Texas Belting stocks interwoven PVC belts with roughtop, chevron, and crescent top surfaces for incline conveying. These profiles provide grip for material transport at moderate to steep angles.
What surface finishes are available?+
COS (smooth carrying surface), CBS (fabric bottom), FBS (friction both sides), roughtop, chevron top, and crescent top. Surface selection depends on product type, incline angle, and whether the belt slides over a slider bed or runs on rollers.
How are interwoven PVC belts spliced?+
Interwoven PVC belts are typically spliced with mechanical fasteners (alligator lacing) or finger splices using PVC welding. The solid woven construction provides excellent fastener retention compared to multi-ply belts.
