What Are Thermoplastic FDA & Sanitary Belts?

Thermoplastic FDA and sanitary belts bring together all FDA-compliant thermoplastic conveyor belts from the PVC & Thermoplastic category into one view. These belts use PVC, polyurethane, silicone, polyolefin, and PTFE/Teflon cover compounds on woven fabric carcasses. ProClean homogeneous belts eliminate fabric layers for maximum sanitary performance. Metal-detectable belts contain compounds that trigger food safety detection equipment. This cross-reference page makes it easy for food processing engineers to compare all thermoplastic FDA options in one place. Every belt meets FDA 21 CFR requirements and is custom cut by Texas Belting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which thermoplastic cover is best for my food product?+
PVC for general food contact. Polyurethane for abrasion resistance. Silicone for high-heat bakery. Polyolefin for freezer environments. Teflon for non-stick release. ProClean for maximum sanitation. Contact Texas Belting for application-specific guidance.
What is the difference between ProClean and standard FDA belts?+
ProClean belts are homogeneous — a single layer of thermoplastic with no woven fabric. This eliminates potential bacterial harboring in fabric layers and makes cleaning more thorough. Standard FDA belts have fabric carcasses coated with FDA-compliant covers.
Why would I need a metal-detectable belt?+
If a belt fragment breaks off and enters your food product, a metal-detectable belt ensures the fragment will trigger your inline metal detector. This is an important food safety measure, especially in meat, poultry, and ready-to-eat processing.
Can these belts handle CIP cleaning?+
Yes. Most thermoplastic FDA belts are compatible with standard Clean-in-Place (CIP) procedures, chlorinated cleaners, quaternary ammonium, and peracetic acid. ProClean belts are specifically designed for aggressive washdown environments.
What temperature range is available?+
From -40°F (polyolefin freezer belts) to 500°F (PTFE/Teflon). PVC FDA covers typically handle -10°F to 250°F. Silicone handles up to 400°F. Select the compound based on your processing temperature range.
How are these belts spliced?+
Heat-welded finger splices maintain FDA compliance and provide a smooth joint. Mechanical fasteners are available for field installation. ProClean positive-drive belts use welded splices that maintain the drive pattern.
