T10 Timing Belts (10mm Metric Trapezoidal)
T10 timing belts are the heavy-duty member of the metric trapezoidal family, with a 10mm pitch designed for high-torque European equipment, large linear motion gantry systems, heavy textile machinery, and industrial automation. T10 is the natural step up from T5 (5mm pitch) when more torque capacity is needed while staying within the European T-profile system. Texas Belting stocks T10 timing belts in neoprene and urethane constructions with fiberglass, steel cord, and Kevlar tensile cord options.
Pitch: 10mm (0.394") | Tooth height: 2.5mm | Profile: Trapezoidal (metric, straight-sided)
Standard widths: 10, 16, 25, 32, 50, 75, 100mm
Part number format: T10-[pitch length in mm]-[width in mm] | Example: T10-600-25 = T10 profile, 600mm pitch length, 25mm wide
Material: Neoprene (standard) or urethane (FDA, steel cord, open-end)
T10 Is NOT the Same as 8M
Just as T5 and 5M are different profiles at 5mm pitch, T10 and 8M HTD are different profiles at nearby pitches. T10 is 10mm trapezoidal; 8M is 8mm curvilinear. They cannot be interchanged.
| Factor | T10 (Metric Trapezoidal) | 8M (HTD Curvilinear) |
|---|---|---|
| Pitch | 10mm | 8mm |
| Tooth shape | Trapezoidal (straight, angled sides) | Curvilinear (rounded, semi-circular) |
| Tooth height | 2.5mm | 3.38mm (taller despite smaller pitch) |
| Load per tooth | Good (trapezoidal) | Higher (curvilinear stress distribution) |
| Pulleys | T10 pulleys only | 8M HTD pulleys only |
| Interchangeable? | NO. Different pitch. Different tooth shape. Different pulleys. | |
| Origin | European standard (DIN) | North American/global standard (RMA/ISO) |
| Common on | European heavy-duty equipment, large gantry systems | North American and global heavy industrial equipment |
| Open-end urethane | Widely available. Standard for heavy linear motion. | Available but less common in open-end. |
T10 Timing Belt Part Number Decoder
| Part Number | Pitch Length | Width | Teeth | Construction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| T10-400-16 | 400mm | 16mm | 40 | Neoprene, fiberglass cord |
| T10-600-25 | 600mm | 25mm | 60 | Neoprene, fiberglass cord |
| T10-840-32 | 840mm | 32mm | 84 | Neoprene, fiberglass cord |
| T10-1210-50 | 1210mm | 50mm | 121 | Neoprene, fiberglass cord |
| T10-50 (open-end) | Per cut length | 50mm | Per length | Urethane, steel cord |
How to calculate teeth: Divide pitch length by 10. Example: 840 / 10 = 84 teeth. Open-end T10 belts are sold by the meter and cut to any required length. Some manufacturers reverse the format (for example, 600-T10-25). See our Pitch Chart for all format variations.
T10 Timing Belt Width Guide
| Width | Typical Applications |
|---|---|
| 10mm | Light T10 drives where T5 at maximum width is insufficient. Uncommon. |
| 16mm | Light to medium European drives. Small machine tools, textile equipment. |
| 25mm | Most popular T10 width. General European industrial, linear motion gantry systems. |
| 32mm | Medium-heavy duty. Large European conveyors, heavy textile machinery. |
| 50mm | Heavy duty. Large gantry systems, heavy-duty linear motion, industrial automation. |
| 75mm | Very heavy duty. Large European industrial drives, mining and processing equipment. |
| 100mm | Maximum T10 width. Heaviest T10 applications. Consider AT10 or 14M HTD if more capacity needed. |
T10 vs. AT10: Standard vs. Modified
AT10 is the modified version of T10, just as AT5 is the modified version of T5. AT10 has a redesigned tooth base that reduces stress concentration and increases load capacity compared to standard T10.
| Factor | T10 (Standard) | AT10 (Modified) |
|---|---|---|
| Tooth shape | Standard trapezoidal | Modified trapezoidal (wider tooth base, reduced stress) |
| Load capacity | Standard | Higher (improved tooth root strength) |
| Pulley compatibility | T10 pulleys | AT10 pulleys (NOT compatible with standard T10) |
| Open-end urethane | Available | Available. Common for heavy linear motion. |
| When to choose | Replacing existing T10 equipment. Standard European OEM. | New designs requiring maximum trapezoidal load at 10mm pitch. Heavy gantry systems. |
T10 for Heavy Linear Motion
T10 is the standard profile for heavy-duty linear motion gantry systems in European-designed automation. Where T5 handles light to medium linear motion loads, T10 takes over for large gantries, heavy CNC routers, waterjet cutting tables, and industrial pick-and-place systems with high carriage weights.
- Open-end urethane T10 with steel cord is the standard construction. Cut to any length. Joined with mechanical connectors or welded splices.
- 25mm and 50mm widths are the most common for heavy linear motion. 75mm and 100mm for the heaviest gantry systems.
- Steel cord provides 0.02% elongation under load, maintaining precise carriage position over long travel distances.
- AT10 open-end urethane is available for the highest load linear motion applications where standard T10 is at its limit.
Common T10 Timing Belt Applications
| Application | Why T10 | Typical Width | Material |

T10 Timing Belt Materials
Neoprene (standard): Neoprene body with fiberglass tensile cord. Standard construction for closed-loop T10 belts on general industrial equipment. Temperature range -30°F to 185°F.
Urethane with steel cord: The standard for heavy linear motion, precision positioning, and food-grade applications. Near-zero stretch. Available in closed-loop and open-end (cut to any length). FDA-compliant compounds available.
Urethane with Kevlar cord: For applications requiring high flex life with moderate stretch control. Better fatigue resistance than steel cord around smaller pulleys or on serpentine drive paths.
Open-end: Urethane T10 belts are available in open-end rolls sold by the meter. Cut and joined to any required length using mechanical connectors or welded splices. This is the standard format for heavy linear motion and custom center distance applications.
