XXH Timing Belts
XXH timing belts are the largest and heaviest pitch in the ANSI/RMA trapezoidal timing belt system. With a 1-1/4" (31.75mm) pitch, XXH belts are engineered for extreme-torque, high-horsepower industrial drives where maximum load capacity is required. These belts serve as a synchronous, positive-drive alternative to roller chain and gear drives in demanding applications such as mining equipment, large conveyors, heavy presses, steel processing, and bulk material handling systems.
XXH timing belts feature deep trapezoidal teeth, neoprene (rubber) bodies, heavy-duty fiberglass tensile cords, and nylon tooth facing. The 1-1/4" pitch provides the greatest tooth depth and shear strength of any standard trapezoidal profile, making XXH the belt of choice when XH (7/8" pitch) belts reach their load limits. Texas Belting stocks XXH timing belts for same-day shipping from Houston.
XXH Timing Belt Part Number Decoder
XXH timing belt part numbers follow the standard ANSI trapezoidal format. The digits before the profile code represent the pitch circumference in tenths of an inch, and the digits after represent the belt width in hundredths of an inch.
Standard Format: [Pitch Length]XXH[Width Code]
| Part Number | Pitch Length | Width | How to Read It |
|---|---|---|---|
| 700XXH300 | 70.0" | 3" (300) | 70.0" pitch circumference, XXH profile, 3" wide |
| 800XXH400 | 80.0" | 4" (400) | 80.0" pitch circumference, XXH profile, 4" wide |
| 900XXH500 | 90.0" | 5" (500) | 90.0" pitch circumference, XXH profile, 5" wide |
| 1000XXH400 | 100.0" | 4" (400) | 100.0" pitch circumference, XXH profile, 4" wide |
For XXH belts, the pitch length digits before "XXH" represent tenths of an inch. Place the decimal before the last digit: 700 = 70.0 inches, 1000 = 100.0 inches. The width code after "XXH" represents hundredths of an inch: 300 = 3.00", 400 = 4.00", 500 = 5.00". Texas Belting can cross-reference XXH part numbers across all major brands. XXH Timing Belt Width Guide
XXH timing belts are manufactured in wide widths to handle the extreme loads these belts are designed for. Wider belts distribute more load across a greater tooth surface area, which is critical at this pitch size.
| Width (Inches) | Width (mm) | Width Code | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2" | 50.8mm | 200 | Lighter XXH drives, lower end of XXH torque range |
| 3" | 76.2mm | 300 | General heavy industrial drives, large conveyors |
| 4" | 101.6mm | 400 | Most common XXH width, high-torque presses and equipment |
| 5" | 127mm | 500 | Maximum standard XXH width, extreme load applications |
If your drive requires a width not listed here, contact Texas Belting. Some manufacturers offer custom or non-standard widths for XXH belts on a made-to-order basis.
XXH vs. Other Heavy-Duty Timing Belt Pitches
XXH is the largest standard trapezoidal pitch. The table below compares XXH to other heavy-duty timing belt options to help you determine whether XXH is the right choice or if a different profile could meet your requirements.
| Profile | Pitch | Tooth Form | Load Capacity | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H | 1/2" (12.7mm) | Trapezoidal | Heavy | Standard heavy-duty drives, compressors, fans |
| XH | 7/8" (22.225mm) | Trapezoidal | Very heavy | High-torque conveyors, machine tools, presses |
| XXH | 1-1/4" (31.75mm) | Trapezoidal | Extreme | Mining, steel processing, extreme-torque industrial drives |
| 14M (HTD) | 14mm (0.551") | Curvilinear (HTD) | Very heavy | Modern high-horsepower drives with improved tooth form |
| Poly Chain GT Carbon | 8mm / 14mm | Modified curvilinear (GT) | Extreme | Chain drive replacement, narrow width at high torque |
| 8M (HTD) | 8mm (0.315") | Curvilinear (HTD) | Heavy | General heavy drives, wide belt widths for high capacity |
XXH belts deliver the highest load capacity of any standard trapezoidal timing belt. For new equipment designs, engineers sometimes evaluate 14M HTD or Poly Chain GT Carbon belts as modern alternatives with curvilinear tooth engagement and potentially narrower belt widths at comparable torque ratings. For replacement on existing XXH drives, always match the original profile and pitch exactly. See the Timing Belt Tooth Profiles Explained guide for a full comparison.
XXH Timing Belt Materials
XXH timing belts are manufactured almost exclusively in neoprene (rubber) construction due to the extreme loads and large physical size of these belts.
Neoprene (Rubber) XXH Belts
Standard XXH belts use a neoprene body with heavy-duty fiberglass tensile cords and nylon tooth facing. This construction provides the tensile strength, shear resistance, and dimensional stability required for extreme-torque drives. Neoprene XXH belts are resistant to oil, ozone, and moderate heat, making them suitable for most heavy industrial environments.
HNBR and Specialty Compounds
For elevated temperatures, chemical exposure, or applications requiring extended service life, some manufacturers offer XXH belts in HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) or other high-performance elastomers. These provide improved heat resistance and chemical compatibility at a premium cost. Contact Texas Belting for availability.
| Property | Standard Neoprene | HNBR / Specialty |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Cord | Fiberglass (heavy-duty) | Fiberglass or aramid |
| Tooth Facing | Nylon fabric | Nylon fabric |
| Temperature Range | -22°F to +185°F | -40°F to +250°F |
| Oil/Chemical Resistance | Good | Excellent |
| Typical Service Life | Standard | Extended |
| Cost | Standard | Premium |
Urethane construction is not available for XXH belts due to the extreme loads involved. For applications requiring urethane or food-grade belts at heavy loads, explore urethane timing belts in HTD or AT profiles at smaller pitches with wider belt widths.
Common XXH Timing Belt Applications
XXH belts are specified for the most demanding synchronous drive applications in heavy industry. The large tooth pitch and deep tooth engagement transmit extreme torque without slippage, eliminating the lubrication and maintenance requirements of roller chain drives.
| Application | Why XXH Works | Typical Width |
|---|---|---|
| Mining conveyors and crushers | Maximum torque capacity, handles shock loads and heavy materials | 4" to 5" |
| Steel and metals processing | Extreme-torque drive for rolling mills, coilers, and feed lines | 4" to 5" |
| Large industrial presses | Positive synchronous drive for high-tonnage stamping and forming | 3" to 5" |
| Bulk material handling | Drives heavy-duty bucket elevators, screw conveyors, and feeders | 3" to 4" |
| Large compressors and blowers | Eliminates belt slip under sustained high-torque loads | 3" to 5" |
| Lumber and sawmill equipment | Withstands heavy shock loads and debris in rough environments | 3" to 4" |
| Paper and pulp machinery | Reliable high-torque drive for large rollers and dryers | 3" to 5" |
| Heavy extruders and mixers | Constant torque delivery at low to moderate speeds | 4" to 5" |
XXH belts are designed for low-speed, high-torque drives. They are not suited for high-speed applications. For moderate loads, consider XH (7/8" pitch) or H (1/2" pitch) belts. For a comparison of all available profiles, see the Timing Belt Selection Guide.
