Shaft-Mount Reducer Cross Reference: Dodge TXT, Browning SMTP & More
Shaft-Mount Reducer Cross Reference: Dodge TXT, Browning SMTP, Hub City PT, Cleveland Gear
The Dodge® Torque-Arm TXT set the dimensional pattern for belt-driven shaft-mount reducers, and Browning® SMTP, Hub City® PT, and Cleveland Gear® CGUSM units follow the same pattern - which is why the WorldWide Electric SMR series crosses all four brands size for size, ratio for ratio. The manufacturer publishes the interchange, so the table below is model-for-model, not guesswork. The cross is a four-point check rather than a five-point motor match.
Shortcut: paste your model number into the cross-reference lookup tool and skip straight to the in-stock unit.
The Four-Point Shaft-Mount Cross
| Check | Where It Lives | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Size number | Housing casting / nameplate (e.g. TXT315) | TXT2 ↔ SMR size 2, TXT3 ↔ size 3… through size 10 |
| Ratio | Nameplate (15:1 or 25:1 nominal) | Actual ratios vary slightly by size - match nominal |
| Bushing bore | Existing tapered bushing kit | Reuse or order bushing kits to head-shaft diameter |
| Torque arm & backstop | Installation | Match torque arm style; inclined belts need a backstop |

Hydraulic drives: the HYSMR series replaces existing Dodge HXT hydraulically-powered units. Beyond shaft mounts, WorldWide worm and helical reducers replace Grove Gear, Falk, Boston Gear, Winsmith, Sterling Electric, and Nord Clincher units, and the WINL helical inline series is dimensioned to match popular European R-series (SEW-type) frames - call with the old nameplate.
Swap-Day Checklist
- Confirm size and ratio off the old nameplate (or measure center distance if the plate is gone - call and we'll identify it).
- Order the bushing kit for your actual measured shaft diameter; worn bores lie.
- Inspect the belt drive: a new reducer under an old cracked sheave inherits the old vibration.
- Inclined conveyor? Verify backstop rotation before the first loaded start.
- Guards back on - belt guards are stocked in matching sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SMR reducer really a drop-in for the Dodge TXT?
The SMR line is built to the shaft-mount dimensional pattern the TXT established - matching size numbers, nominal ratios, bushing system, and torque arm arrangement - so same-size swaps bolt up in the same installation. Confirm size, ratio, bore, and backstop on each cross; that's the whole check.
What does the number in TXT315 or TXT425 mean?
First digit is the case size (3, 4...), the remainder the nominal ratio family - 15 for 15:1, 25 for 25:1. So a TXT315 crosses to a size 3, 15:1 shaft mount; a TXT425 to a size 4, 25:1.
Can I reuse my existing Dodge bushings and torque arm?
Frequently yes on same-size crosses, since the bushing and arm interfaces follow the same pattern - but bushings are wear items; inspect tapers and order a fresh kit if there's fretting. New kits are stocked by size and bore.
What about screw conveyor drives (SCXT)?
The SCSMR series covers it - same shaft-mount concept packaged for CEMA screw conveyors, with drive shafts and flanges stocked. Match size, ratio, and the screw's coupling shaft diameter.
What replaces a Browning SMTP or Hub City PT shaft mount?
The same SMR/SCSMR cross, published model-for-model: a 203SMTP15 or PT3203S15 crosses to SMR3-15/1, a 115SMTP25 or PT2115S25 to SMR2-25/1, and so on by size and ratio. Cleveland Gear CGUSM units follow the identical pattern.
Rebuild the old TXT or replace with SMR?
Price both: a rebuild kit plus labor and downtime versus an in-stock complete unit. On critical conveyors the complete swap usually wins on downtime; the rebuild kit then returns the old core to the shelf as a spare.
