T-Series Polyurethane Timing Belts
T-Series Polyurethane Timing Belts
T-Series timing belts are metric polyurethane synchronous belts with a trapezoidal tooth profile conforming to DIN 7721 and ISO 5296 standards. They are the most widely used metric timing belt family, available in pitches from 2mm (T2) to 20mm (T20) for applications ranging from miniature instrumentation drives to heavy-duty industrial power transmission.
Texas Belting stocks T-Series polyurethane timing belts in open-ended rolls, welded endless loops, and truly endless molded configurations. All belts feature steel cord or aramid tension members for minimal elongation and precise positioning. Optional backings, tooth coatings, and custom modifications are available for conveying and specialty drive applications.

T-Series vs. AT-Series: Which to Choose
The AT-Series is an upgraded alternative to the T-Series with a modified curvilinear tooth profile that provides up to 30% higher power capacity at the same pitch. AT belts also offer reduced backlash and improved resistance to tooth shear under high loads.
T-Series belts use a trapezoidal tooth profile and are not interchangeable with AT-Series pulleys. Each profile requires its own matching pulley. For help determining which profile is right for your application, contact Texas Belting at 888-203-2358 or see the tooth profiles explained guide.
Common Applications
T-Series polyurethane timing belts are used in a broad range of industries and equipment types. The combination of standardized metric pitch, wide availability, and compatibility with backing materials and conveying profiles makes the T-Series suitable for both drive and transport applications.
Typical equipment includes packaging machinery, printing and converting presses, textile equipment, CNC routers and machine tools, pick-and-place gantry systems, medical devices, vending equipment, and general industrial conveying and power transmission drives.
Frequently Asked Questions
T5 (5mm pitch) is the most widely used T-Series belt. It offers a strong balance of power capacity, flexibility, and pulley size for general-purpose power transmission, linear positioning, and medium-duty conveying applications. T5 belts are available in the widest range of widths and truly endless lengths.
Yes. T-Series open-ended belts, particularly T5 and T10, are commonly used in linear positioning systems including CNC machines, 3D printers, and pick-and-place gantries. For applications requiring the highest positioning accuracy, the ATL-Series is specifically optimized for linear motion with tighter pitch tolerances and reduced backlash.
Standard polyurethane T-Series belts operate from -30°C to +80°C. For applications above +80°C, the Redflex GEN III compound extends the continuous operating range to +100°C. Below -30°C, special low-temperature formulations may be required.
T-Series belt speed depends on the pitch and pulley size. T5 belts can operate at linear speeds up to approximately 80 m/s with proper drive design. Smaller pitches (T2, T2.5) are typically used at lower speeds, while larger pitches (T10, T20) are run at moderate speeds with higher loads. For high-speed, high-acceleration applications, the Move-Series is specifically designed for dynamic performance.
Choose T5 for moderate loads with smaller pulleys and more compact drives. Choose T10 when you need higher power transmission capacity, wider belt options up to 100mm, or when the drive layout can accommodate larger pulleys. T10 provides roughly twice the power capacity of T5 at the same belt width.
No. T-Series belts use a trapezoidal tooth profile that is not compatible with HTD (curvilinear) pulleys. Each belt type requires its own matching pulley profile. Using the wrong pulley will result in poor tooth engagement, accelerated wear, and potential belt failure. If you are unsure which profile your equipment uses, contact Texas Belting at 888-203-2358 for identification assistance.
Yes. T-Series belts are available in FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 compliant polyurethane with sealed stainless steel tension members. These belts are suitable for direct food contact and washdown environments. See the food-grade polyurethane timing belts page for full material options and compliance details.
Yes. Open-ended T-Series belts can be joined into endless loops using PinLock mechanical connectors, finger splicing, or welding. For applications where joint strength is critical, truly endless belts (molded with no splice) are recommended. See the connecting and joining belts page for details on each method.
