Modular Belt Surface Types

Texas Belting stocks modular plastic belts in every major surface configuration. Select the surface type that matches your conveying requirements.

Flat Top

Smooth, closed surface for general product conveying. Provides stable, continuous support for packages, containers, bottles, and cartons. Available in straight and side-flexing configurations for radius turns.

Best for: Packaging lines, bottle handling, general product transport, accumulation tables

Flush Grid

Open mesh design allows water, air, and small particles to pass through the belt. Ideal for washing, draining, cooling, and drying applications. Easy to clean — no pockets for product buildup.

Best for: Meat & poultry washing, produce rinsing, seafood processing, cooling tunnels

Griptop & Raised Rib

Textured carrying surface with raised patterns or rubber grip inserts for incline conveying and product control. Prevents sliding on inclines and declines without requiring cleats.

Best for: Incline/decline conveyors, wet product grip, bakery proofing, poultry processing

Roller Top

Built-in rollers in each module provide a low-friction surface for product transfers, side transfers, and accumulation. Products can be pushed or diverted laterally while the belt moves forward.

Best for: Case packing, palletizing, side transfers, zero-pressure accumulation

Spiral & Side-Flexing

Side-flexing modules navigate radius turns and multi-tier spiral configurations. Spiral conveyors provide continuous freezing, cooling, proofing, pasteurizing, and drying in a compact vertical footprint.

Best for: Spiral freezers, cooling towers, proofing ovens, compact plant layouts

Perforated & Vacuum

Precision-perforated modules for vacuum hold-down, drainage, and airflow applications. Hole patterns and open area percentages are matched to the specific application requirements.

Best for: Vacuum conveying, dewatering, drying, baking with airflow

What Are Modular Plastic Conveyor Belts?

Modular plastic conveyor belts consist of interlocking plastic modules joined by hinge rods to form a continuous belt surface. Unlike fabric-based rubber or PVC belts that are manufactured as a single continuous sheet, modular belts are assembled from individual injection-molded modules — typically made from acetal (POM), polypropylene (PP), or polyethylene (PE) — that snap or hinge together. This modular construction provides several fundamental advantages: individual damaged modules can be replaced in the field without removing or replacing the entire belt, the positive sprocket drive eliminates belt slip and tracking problems, and the non-porous plastic surface resists moisture absorption and bacterial growth.

Modular belts are driven by sprockets that engage with the belt underside — similar to a chain and sprocket — rather than relying on friction between the belt and drive pulley. This positive drive means the belt cannot slip, even when wet, oily, or heavily loaded. The belt maintains consistent speed regardless of load conditions, which is critical in food processing, pharmaceutical, and packaging applications where throughput consistency matters.

Texas Belting is an authorized distributor for Intralox, Habasit, Rexnord, and other leading modular belt manufacturers. We stock popular flat top, flush grid, griptop, and spiral configurations in multiple pitches and widths, and can source any specialty module, accessory, or replacement component from our manufacturer partners. Every modular belt system is configured to your exact conveyor specifications.

Advantages of Modular Belting Over Fabric Belts

Modular plastic belts solve the most common problems with traditional rubber and PVC conveyor belts.

Field Repairable

Replace individual damaged modules in minutes without removing the belt from the conveyor. No vulcanizing, no heat welding, no special tools. Dramatically reduces unplanned downtime.

Positive Sprocket Drive

Sprocket engagement eliminates belt slip, mistracking, and tension adjustments. Consistent speed regardless of load, moisture, or temperature. No re-tensioning required.

Superior Sanitation

Non-porous plastic surfaces do not absorb moisture or harbor bacteria like fabric carcasses. Easy to clean with standard CIP, high-pressure washdown, or chemical sanitation.

Long Service Life

Engineered plastic modules resist abrasion, chemical attack, and temperature extremes. Modular belts typically last 3-5x longer than fabric belts in food processing and wet environments.

Curves & Spirals

Side-flexing modules navigate radius turns that would require expensive custom fabric belts. Spiral configurations provide vertical conveying in a compact footprint.

Temperature & Chemical Resistant

Acetal, polypropylene, and polyethylene modules withstand temperatures from -60°F to 300°F. Resistant to acids, alkalis, and common food-industry cleaning chemicals.

Industries & Applications

Modular plastic belts serve industries where sanitation, reliability, and configurability are critical.

Food & Beverage Processing

The largest application for modular belting. Meat and poultry processing (deboning, portioning, packaging), seafood handling, bakery proofing and cooling, dairy processing, produce washing and sorting, beverage packaging, and frozen food spiral freezers. FDA-approved materials in white and blue for visual contamination detection.

Packaging & Logistics

Case packing, palletizing, accumulation tables, merge/divert, side transfers, and end-of-line packaging. Roller top modules enable lateral product movement. Flat top modules provide stable surfaces for cartons and cases. Low-friction surfaces reduce line pressure in accumulation zones.

Pharmaceutical & Cosmetics

Tablet and capsule conveying, blister pack transport, bottle handling, and clean room environments. FDA-approved, non-shedding, easy to sanitize. Metal-detectable modules available for HACCP compliance.

Related: Pharmaceutical & Chemical Industry

Automotive & Industrial

Parts washing, paint line conveyors, assembly line accumulation, and heavy parts transport. Modular belts resist cutting oils, cleaning solvents, and elevated temperatures in industrial environments. Flush grid modules handle parts washing with full drainage.

Modular Belt Accessories

Configure your modular belt system with accessories matched to your application.

Flights & Cleats
Cross-bars that attach to the belt surface for incline conveying, product spacing, and material containment on elevated conveyors.
Sidewalls
Edge containment modules that prevent product from falling off belt edges. Available in multiple heights for different product sizes.
Rubber Grip Inserts
Molded rubber inserts that snap into flat top modules to provide high-friction grip surfaces for incline and product control applications.
Hold-Down & Guide Tabs
Tabs that engage with conveyor frame wear strips for belt guidance and retention, preventing belt lift at transfer points.
Wear Strips & Sprockets
UHMW wear strips for frame support surfaces and drive/idler sprockets matched to your belt series and pitch.
Table Top Chains
Plastic and stainless steel table top chains for bottle, can, and container conveying on straight and curved conveyors.
